City guide at Melk & Honning
These are her favorite bars and restaurants in the Danish capital.
With the pandemic in the rearview mirror (with crossed fingers) one can finally plan and look forward to a little travel again. Men with several years on the spot may need a little outside help.
Because where do you eat the biggest food in Paris, what are the fattest shops in Copenhagen and what is the finest rooftop bar in Barcelona?
In this series of articles, Melk & Honning talks to influences and celebrities to get their tips for various big city favorites around.
In this week’s M&H city guide, we talk to Darja Barannik.
The Norwegian influencer and the founder of Shapka Cashmere moved to Copenhagen earlier this year. Here are her very best tips from the Danish capital.

What is the first thing you think of when someone mentions Copenhagen?
– Bicycles and low, colorful buildings. Cool, party-loving people and sneakers. Avocado toast, although I have not eaten a single one since I moved. Overall delicious cafes and restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere.
Why did you choose to move yours?
– My boyfriend and I wanted to go on an adventure for a little over six months and for various reasons the country’s choice in Copenhagen. Time has passed far too fast and soon we will be back to Oslo again. Whether it will be too good, we are not entirely sure, says Darja Barannik.
Which parts of the city are your favorites?
– We live in the inner city right by the water, so we have walking distance to many cozy cafes and restaurants, while we have Christiania right behind us. It is an incredibly beautiful area for jogging or Sunday walks. I was amazed at how large an area Christiana actually is and how fine nature it has.
– Otherwise, I think Nørrebro has its own atmosphere and so many delicious restaurants and bars. Værnedamsvei between Frederiksberg and Vesterbro is also super cozy!
Which hotels can you recommend?
– Villa Copenhagen is a favorite with amusement park and stone throw outside, outdoor pool and bright, delicious rum.
– Sanders is a fantastic little gem in the middle of the city with inspiring interiors (lots of vintage), delicious food and a cozy bar with music and great drinks. Have also heard that hotel Coco should be good at a fair price.
Where do you prefer to eat breakfast and lunch?
– Atelier September, Apotek 57, Apollo, Lille Bakery, La Banchina, Pompette, Granola, Bottega Barlie, Sonny, The Union Kitchen, Beau Marche, Delphine, Esmee for a finer lunch and LETT for a fresh and healthy lunch.
If you have the opportunity to get a little outside the city, Rabarbaragaarden is a gem of a farm with a lovely lunch in charming surroundings. Greenhouses, animals and nice people.
– Lynæs Surfcamp for glamping and outdoor activities – super fun and fun. Falsledkro and Hornbæk must be cozy for overnight stays and dinner. I have not been there myself, but got it recommended.
And what about dinner?
– Mangia, Maison, Donda, Barabba, Jah Izakaya (Copenhagen’s coldest and most delicious beer), Esmee, Delphine, Pluto, Italio Disco, Bar Pasta, Rufino Osteria, Baka dBusk, and Fiskebaren or Gorilla in Kødbyen.
– And Torvhallerne for delicious ingredients for a picnic or a homemade meal.
Where do you prefer to drink or dance in Copenhagen?
– Pompette, The Horizontal, Veranda, Vivant, Poldo, Apollo, (all mentioned here you can also eat various delicious dishes before or after dinner), Rubys, Ved Stranden 10 and Lille blue wine bar.
– Balderdash for crazy drinks (the ingredients are very special).
– Regarding dances, we have a little good to experience it for ourselves. We have been to some clubs, but it has not been remarkably good.
Which do you prefer to shop in?
– Copenhagen has lots of vintage shops. Some favorites are Bakkekilde, Magnolia, I blame lulu, Jerome Vintage and Time´s Up Vintage.
What are your favorites when it comes to cultural things there? (Museums… Galleries… Other Things?)
– Louisiana Museum of Modern Art! LOVE that place. A little outside Copenhagen, but worth the trip for inspiring art in the finest surroundings. Drag when the temperature is on the plus side, so you can enjoy the surroundings to the fullest.
– The Glypotektet, Rudolph Tegneres museum, Thorvaldsens museum, Statens Museum for Kunst or all worth a visit!
– And the Zoo is an incredibly beautiful area. I think we saw around 600 deer when we were last there. The national park has several restaurants and is generally a nice place to walk, concludes Darja Barannik.
