2. League: Farewell! This Hanover star is already packing the moving boxes – 2nd Bundesliga
He came from Greece to Hannover 96 in the 2nd division in 2020, played 56 games (3 goals). The fans loved him, he can feel comfortable. Nevertheless, the defender makes the departure after the season.
On May 1st he was in a good mood at the racecourse. With his wife Rebecca and their children Chantie (4) and Quentin (15 months old), he enjoyed the day, the weather, the rescue with Hannover 96 and being with his colleagues. But the decision had already been made that Niklas Hult (32) did not extend his contract.
Taking leave! Hult is already packing moving boxes
The Swede has given notice of the apartment, the moving company has been appointed. The left-back is leaving Hanover after two years and is returning to Sweden for the time being.
Talks between Hult and 96 before the winless March seemed to be on the right track. But then the perennial hit was offered a new contract, according to which he should forego 50 percent of his salary. As an undisputed starter, Hult, after careful consideration, was not ready to do so.
Hult is a cult among the fans. Nevertheless, it is understandable that manager Marcus Mann (38) only made a mini offer. Because the Swede has knee problems and had to pause again and again. With two training sessions a day, he could only participate in one so as not to put too much strain on his knee.
And Hult didn’t do any self-promotion with his season record either.
A goal, not a single goal assist – that’s a poor yield for a full-back. After the strong first 96 year, this season too often fell short of expectations. Most recently he was missing twice after the sun-red against Düsseldorf (0-0).
In 2020 he moved from AEK Athens to Hanover. With good performances in the 96 jersey, he even made it into the Swedish reserve squad for the European Championship. Now he is looking for a new club.
