The renewed marathon of the RunCzech series in Prague, which it produces after three years, once again attracted a quality African runner to start. The organizers believe that the race records in both categories may be in danger on Sunday. In addition, Czech titles will also compete on the traditional track in the center of the metropolis.

The women’s record is much younger. During the last classic year of the Prague Marathon, it was created in 2019 in the performance of 2:19:46 by the representative of Israel, Lonah Chemtai Salpeterová.
This time, the biggest favorites for the victory are Kenyan woman Nancy Met, who last year won the marathon in Valencia with a time of 2:19:31, and Ethiopian Azmera Hagos. She was second at the Paris Marathon three years ago.
Czech names on the track
The championship race should be more balanced in the men’s category. Vít Pavlišta from Liberec will defend the title. He has already won the national marathon championship three times. This year he competed only at the half marathon championship of the republic, where he finished fourth.
His traditional rival Jiří Homoláč won there, continuing the position of the best Czech racer from the RunCzech half marathon in Prague. In the last two marathon domestic championships, he was second to Pavlišta. He has a title from 2018. The bronze medal will be defended by Jan Kohut. The starting list also includes an eleven-time medalist and a five-time champion from this event, Petr Pechek.
On the contrary, of the elite Czech endurance athletes, only Marcela Joglová should be at the start. The Olympian and the 20th woman from the 2019 World Championships have already raced in Rotterdam this year, but there after health problems and too fast a start of the distance at the 28th kilometer.
Prague has chosen spring as an alternative marathon. But I will confirm my participation at the last minute, because she did not feel 100% fit last week.
Sunday’s race, which can be attended by more than 10,000 runners, will start at 9:00 in the Old Town Square.
