India-Sweden relationship
Importantly, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Leadership Group on Industry Transition (LeadIT), an initiative signed between India and Sweden to help the industries that emit the most Gree House Gases (GHGs) to reduce their emissions. to become a low-carbon economy. The number of members in the initiative has grown to 35 with 16 countries and 19 companies.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson engaged in a bilateral meeting alongside the second India-Nordic summit in Copenhagen. This was the maiden meeting between the two leaders. During PM Modi’s visit to the first Nordic Summit 2018 in Sweden, both countries had adopted a joint action plan after signing a joint innovation partnership. India and Sweden’s relations have been based on common values, strong links to business, investment and R & D.
Both sides explored the possibilities of further broadening the scope of cooperation in areas such as innovation, climate technology, climate action, green hydrogen, space, defense, civil aviation, the Arctic, polar research, sustainable mining and trade and economic ties.

Prime Minister Modi meets leaders from Nordic countries
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the Nordic heads of state alongside the second India-Nordic summit. In a bilateral meeting with its Finnish counterpart Sanna Marin, both sides conducted a dialogue in areas such as sustainability, digitalisation and cooperation in science and education; discussions with Iceland took place to speed up trade negotiations between India and EFTA. India and Norway reviewed continued commitments in bilateral relations and discussed future areas of cooperation.
Meanwhile, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio will visit Delhi on May 4-6. Together with a high-level business delegation, this will be the Minister’s first visit to India. EAM S Jaishankar will hold bilateral talks and review the progress of the 2020-2024 Action Plan adopted at the 2020 Virtual Summit.
