MOB sports director: The Hungarian Olympics would be a dream come true
Csaba Bartha, the new sports director of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB), said that a dream for all sports enthusiasts would be a Hungarian Olympics, but that requires very serious social cohesion and political will.
The expert spoke about this in an interview with M4 Sport in response to Juan Antonio Samaranch, vice-president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Federation of Pentecostals (UIPM) last week, saying Hungary should aim to host the summer pentathlon.
“Of course, it would be a great thing if the Hungarian Olympic Committee could organize an Olympics with the Hungarian government and the entire Hungarian sports community at some point. I think that the kind of development that has taken place in the recent past, I am thinking here mainly of infrastructure development, promises a great deal of hope that Hungary will once host the Olympics. But this really requires very serious social cohesion and political will. I am optimistic, it would be a dream come true for all sports fans. ” Said Csaba Bartha.
Juan Antonio Samaranch arrived in Budapest for the World Cup competition and the meeting of the executive committee of the international federation. After the race, the UIPM announced that it plans to incorporate an obstacle course or obstacle course instead of a ride, and a testing phase will begin.
In this connection, the sports director of MOB reminded that the Hungarian association had been in favor of horse riding from the very beginning.
“I don’t want to criticize the decision of the international federation, but it will be terribly strange to me to hold this sport without riding. This is the five most spectacular number, I can’t imagine where the hurdles will be inserted yet. We still know little about this, but I was afraid of the five. ” – said Csaba Bartha, who has been holding the position of sports director since April 1.
As he said, he had to decide quickly whether to take on the job, but he didn’t think much, as he thought working in the MOB was an uplifting feeling. In the last month, he has been a lot informed, read, reviewed the professional materials, visited many sports federations and participated in several competitions, such as the swimmer ob, the pentathlon, the Hungarian fencing cup and the Hungarian wrestling championship.
Csaba Bartha was Deputy Director of Sports from 2012 and Secretary General of the MOB from autumn 2016 to May 2017. He participated in three Olympics, one European Youth Olympic Festival, two Youth Olympics and one European Games with the Hungarian delegation.
Just as his current role is different from what he said earlier, his work is focused only on the field of sports. The biggest task of the MOB was to organize 11 major events of the five-ring cycle – Olympics, Youth Olympics, European Youth Olympic Festivals (EYOF), World Beach Games, European Games – according to the MOB the preparation of athletes should be smooth and public resources should be spent as efficiently as possible by the federation.
The first race of the new management will be the EYOF in Banská Bystrica in the summer, with 98 Hungarians traveling in nine sports. According to Csaba Bartha, there are no specific expectations for the delegation, the most important thing is that the age group can compete again after the pandemic.
In the context of Paris in 2024, the sports director put it this way: he would be very happy if the previously targeted quota number of 200 came together, but it requires a lot of qualifications, especially for Olympic team sports.
