Romani refugees who camped at the Brno railway station spent the night in the barracks in Židenice. Prague is addressing capacity
In recent days, a group of Roma refugees from Ukraine have established a post in front of the main railway station in Brno and refused the offered accommodation. In general, the assistance center offers accommodation in boarding houses or boarding schools, a variant is also the administration of refugee facilities.
“Roma groups have a problem when the family loses twenty or thirty members and does not want to be divided. Such capacity is not easy to find, which is why we also offer the management of refugee facilities. Some refused, “explained Alena Knotková, a spokeswoman for the South Moravian Region.
Some people were already transferred to the former barracks in Židenice on Monday evening, where they spent the night. “The situation is almost unsolvable. My primary goal is to make the streets safe so that there are no homeless people here, and in such numbers. The problem is that we cannot force these people to move somewhere, “said the mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
According to police spokesman Petr Svab, most people from the group of Roman refugees went through the process at some of the assistance centers for Ukrainian refugees. “They have temporary protection status,” he said.
According to Alice Sigmund Heráková, a member of the Government Council for Roma Minority Affairs, a working group should be set up to help these people. “Brno is a big city and there are a lot of those people. Several groups have already passed through Brno and it is bad blood, “Heráková pointed out that some people do not like large Roman groups at the station.
According to her, about 1,200 Roman refugees came to the Czech Republic. “Different groups come from the most integrated to the worst social conditions. There is more complex integration. Therefore, I am in communication with a colleague who works in the social department of the municipality to create an action group, “she said.
Prague does not have the capacity for Romanesque refugees
The Prague City Council is asking the Refugee Facilities Administration to help accommodate groups of Roman refugees from Ukraine. The city does not have enough suitable accommodation capacity for them. According to the mayor, the metropolis has only tens of beds that it can use for Roman refugees. According to the mayor, they must be taken care of primarily by the Refugee Facilities Administration.
“We will ask the state to find more capacity. The state’s efforts to date to ensure sufficient capacity for these groups have failed. This is a fundamental problem that we will not solve from the position of the region, “said Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates).
It is not entirely clear how many such groups are in Prague. “We are based on what we see in the assistance center or at the main station. So, for example, the information from today’s five o’clock in the morning was 330 Roman refugees, “said Luděk Prudil, director of the Prague fire brigade, on Tuesday.
