Paolo Almi is the new administrator of the Misericordia of Siena
Paolo Almi is the new administrator of the Misericordia of Siena. About 240 volunteers went to the vote who gave their trust to the one who will take over from Andrea Valboni. In front of Almi there are now various challenges: that of going to renovate the association’s fleet of cars, and to do so will require significant investments; being able to guarantee the high number of services that are guaranteed every day; to make sure to find new volunteers and to give life, in doing so, to a generational change among them.
“I am very happy and I thank all the people who trusted me – Almi’s statements. – It will be a great and important commitment in what promises to be complicated years. The number of services we carry out has grown a lot in the last two years, there are a lot of requests even just for what concerns the medical transport activities and the emergency. In the years of Covid we have been able to carry out fewer courses to train new volunteers. Now they are resumed, for example an advanced level course is in progress, however the number of new trained volunteers has decreased compared to what happened in the past. I want to commend all the volunteers for what they have done in these two years of the pandemic. They did an excellent job and with great professionalism, and no one was infected in service “.
Almi again: “There is always a need for new volunteers, and also for a generational change because the average age is quite high. Today there is a phenomenon in which it is easier for young people to approach recreational and / or cultural associations rather than voluntary associations like ours. According to the new law, ambulances that are used are not older than ten and still not have a certain mileage. But not all vehicles have those characteristics. We will have to make an economic effort and find a way to go and buy new vehicles: an ambulance costs 100,000 euros, a medical minibus 48,000 ”.
