Pink tiles
In 2020, Tjitske Dijkstra had only just lived in Amsterdam when she talked about Tiles out, green in! read. “My garden was full of pink tiles, horrible. Actually it was not a garden but a courtyard. The rainwater remained on those tiles. I wanted to do something about it, but not until I was done with the house. Still, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to start immediately and quickly turn that stone plain into a garden paradise.”
extra hands
“Every year the people of Tegels choose it, green in it! a garden where they offer extra help. Their choice fell on my garden, what luck. 2 guys helped me for 2 days. On the first day, we took out all 500 tiles and placed them on the street. On the second day, the wheelbarrows started with soil in reverse. I could really use those extra hands.”
Walking chamomile and creeping thyme
“Tiles’ landscape gardener looks, green in it! gave me advice on the design and on the choice of plants. I didn’t want grass, but ground covers that you can walk on. There is now, among other things, thorn nut, chamomile and creeping thyme. Once the soil is final, no more weeds will come in between. There are still a few stones in the garden, in the form of tree trunks. That’s what the tables and chairs are on.”
Vertical garden
“My garden is now an oasis of peace. I like being involved in it or just sitting there. The upstairs neighbors also enjoy it, I regularly get reactions from them. I have not finished yet. I want to create a vertical garden against the wall of the garden house. And solar panels and sedum will be installed on the roof. †
