A new day center and dormitory for homeless people was established in Malešice
On May 1, the Prague Social Services Center set up a new low-threshold day center and dormitory in the Malešický chateau. The non-stop facility is designed for homeless men over the age of 55 and has a capacity of 28 beds and 30 seats within the day center.
The operation is provided by the non-profit organization Salvation Army.
This is a project within the decentralization of care for the homeless according to the trend of community care. The established center in Prague 10 was to gradually replace most of the services provided by the Bohuslav Bureš Social Services Center in Tusarova Street in Holešovice.
It was established in the 1990s and no longer meets current conditions. The reconstruction of the Malešice Chateau cost the Center of Social Services Prague (CSSP) for 21 million crowns.
According to Councilor Milena Johnová (Prague Sobě), an asylum house with sixty beds should remain in the facility in Tusarova Street after the decentralization of services is completed. So far, more than a hundred people have used the services of the local day center, and about sixty people slept at night, the councilor added.
According to CSSP estimates, about four to five thousand homeless people live in Prague. As many as 160,000 people are currently at risk of homelessness, John said, referring to CSSP statistics. (CTK)
