The Trade Fair Palace in Prague is closed after the water accident – ČT24 – Czech Television
“The aim is to open the palace to the public on Wednesday. The Kolektor café is open, “the spokeswoman specified.
At night, there is a water pipe on the second underground floor of the palace, where part of the depository is located. “Currently, the accident is under control, the main water shut-off valve has been closed, so it is not spreading. Only one work of art was slightly damaged, for which we determine the extent of the damage, but the damage is insignificant. The other exhibits were not affected by the accident and are safe, “said the spokesman.
Firefighters announced at night that they were draining water from the basement of the functionalist palace, taking the most endangered art objects out. There was about ten inches of water in the basement. There are two professional, two volunteer units and a fire brigade from Prague Castle.
The National Gallery has been talking for many years about the need for a new central depository. The year before, she had already selected the project contractor in the competition. The gallery plans that the construction will take seven years from the start of the project. She previously stated that the construction should cost 1.3 billion crowns.
Since the head of NGP Jiří Fajt, he has also been promoting a major reconstruction of the Trade Fair Palace. But it will probably not start before the depository in Jinonice. This is partly because the works have been moved to the finished depository from the Trade Fair Palace, which, in addition to space for permanent expositions and exhibitions, is also the depository.
