Warsaw. The Warsaw Photoplasticon is open to visitors. What was there to see?
After two years of research, Fotoplastikon Warszawski is available to visitors. From April 30, a collection of stereoscopic photos showing Warsaw in the fall of 1927 will be shown. In the photos in, among others representative areas of Śródmieście, the Great Synagogue in Tłomackie, the square behind the Iron Gate and the Saxon Garden.
Glass negatives in the 4.5×10.7 cm format, divided by the author of the photos into eight more, of which seven, a total of 116 photos, have survived. Tomasz was selected and auctioned on the collector’s exchange by a collector, also an exhibition author at Fotoplastikon Warszawski.
“The Internet seller does not know the source of the photos, so nothing is known about the author of the photo, except that he was definitely a French who, while visiting Europe, visits Poland in Warsaw. From the shots and captions, it can be concluded that the photographer had some friends or families whom he photographed being in Warsaw “- said Fotoplastikon Warszawski in a press release.
The photos were supposed to be taken in the fall of 1927. They present representative representations of the city center, visited by tourists – Solec and Prague. They are also included in the common community in the town of Wolominie inhabitants. The exhibition also features the Great Synagogue in Tłomackie, the building of the Grand Theater, the square behind the Iron Gate, Marszałkowska Street, the Saski Garden, Mariensztat and the hovel in Rybaki.
Over 100 years of activity
Photoplasticons are devices constructed at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries to ensure the stereo availability of several dozen photos. In place of the machine, there were viewfinders for viewing moving photos.
The Warsaw Fotoplastikon has been operating in the same place, i.e. the tenement house in Aleje Jerozolimskie 51, since 1905. Its collection includes over 10,000 three-dimensional journeys – exotic journeys around the world at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, through frames already showing Warsaw at various times, to contemporary works by popular authors.
In 2021, Fotoplastikon Placki is a Museum that was renovated and the layout of new rooms was created, thanks to which the space of Fotoplastikon was enlarged, among others. for a new exhibition hall, a photo studio and an archive, thanks to which you can conduct cultural, educational and workshop activities.
In the space of Fotoplastikon, there are not only exhibitions, but also small concerts, city games, lectures and conferences.
Fotoplastikon Warszawski will be open on the weekend in May: April 30 and May 1-3 from 10-18.
