City Council The City of Prague approved the provision of a special-purpose non-investment subsidy of the Prague 14 district in the amount of 980 thousand crowns for the implementation of an art project competition for the design “Vybíralka 2024 – art for Vybíralka”.
This is a project within the Art for the City program, the subject of the competition is the elaboration of a design and the subsequent delivery of art installations in the Vybíralka 25 courtyard in Prague 14, Černý Most. The implementation of the project was recommended by the City Council. m of Prague for art in public space and the City Council. m of Prague agreed to provide the subsidy on 19 April.
“The Vybíralka housing estate is the last housing estate in Prague built before 1990, where the requirement to set aside up to 4 percent of the total cost of artistic decoration was no longer met at the time of construction. In cooperation with Prague 14, we are opening a unique opportunity for a contemporary artist who creates works that will contribute to the revitalization of the housing estate and enrich the local public space with artistic elements that have been missing here for a long time, “said the councilor. m Prague Hana Třeštíková.
Four open site-specific works of art should emerge from the open two-round competition, which are to be placed in the area of the so-called patches at the entrances to the quiet part of the courtyard. The works should form one whole, but at the same time distinguish between the pieces. The aim is to improve and, with the help of artistic input, complete the hierarchically higher space, improve the orientation of the housing estate, attract residents to use public space and return the tradition of art in the housing estate.
“Prague housing estates have long been on the side of interest of the city management. We are changing this approach, for example, with the Arts for the City program. The non-central parts of Prague need to be revitalized and adapted so that Praguers like to spend their free time in public spaces here as well, ”added Petr Zeman, Chairman of the Territorial Development Committee of the Prague City Council.
