The Prague Photographic Exhibition begins, showing the changes in the metropolis
Richard Horák won the main prize across the categories this year for the film Lady with a Dog from Prague. A woman with a respirator on her face walks the dog on it, which was one of the few ways to fill her free time in times of greatest constraints. The exhibition will run until May 14.
Over a quarter of a century, the international competition festival regularly brings together the best pictures of the capital taken last year. The annual exhibitions are not only a reflection of the changes in the metropolis, but also the measurements of individual photographers. 979 photos were entered in the 26th year of the competition. The submitted photos were evaluated by a jury headed by photographer and curator Dana Kyndrová.
It traditionally competes in four permanent categories – The Beauty of Prague and its Transformations, People in Prague, Problems of Prague and The Chronicle of the Capital. The variable categories this year were Sunday in Prague and the Old Town. Prizes and honors are awarded in all categories. The criteria for their selection is the originality of the shots and the individual creative approach to the photographic representation of the topic. The winners will be announced on May 2 at 5:30 pm at the Old Town Hall.
This year’s exhibition will show 213 winning and jury-selected images from 59 photographers. Most of the registered photographers did not precise the well-known Prague motifs, but tried to find new, extraordinary views of ordinary forgotten places. This proves that Prague can be seen from the inside, that the jury said about the real image, not the improved postcards.
