Stoffel Vandoorne, happy after his victory in Monaco: “It’s special to win here”
Stoffel Vandoorne won his first E-Prix of the season this Saturday. A third victory in Formula E acquired on the legendary circuit of Monaco. “It’s special to win here. Everyone wants to win this Grand Prix. I won it in GP2 in 2015 and I’ve been unlucky since then. We had a very good weekend and I knew that I was in a position where I could fight for the win. My car was on top this Saturday.”.
Unlucky since the start of the season, has the Belgian released any frustration? “No. I had a good start to the season with good qualifying but I lacked pace in the race. I knew I had to be consistent all season and that after a while I was going to “carry. That’s what happened this weekend.”
If Monaco is a special circuit for all the drivers, it is even more so for the Courtraisien since he lives a few kilometers from the circuit. To top it off, many fans and his father had made the trip to the Rock. “It’s great. A lot of Belgian supporters made the trip. I had never seen so many fans in the stands. It’s extraordinary that we can once again receive the public. It’s also my Grand Prix at home because I live here”.
Will the Mercedes driver respect the Monegasque tradition by jumping into the swimming pool to celebrate the victory? “I don’t know yet but I will celebrate with the team”.
