Letter from the SdS Lonfernini to male and female workers on the occasion of the 1st May party
Dear Trade Unions and Employers’ Associations,
Dearest Workers, Dearest Workers,
never as in this historical time in which we found ourselves living and living, do I consider May 1st a great occasion in which to be able to go on great issues that concern a priority aspect of people’s lives and that is work.
For these reasons, today, on Our anniversary, I want to address my greeting to all of you with the hope that it will be welcomed in the spirit of my total closeness and participation.
I immediately take this opportunity to express my greatest agreement for the signing of the first contractual agreement which, although not valid erga omnes, involves approximately 6,500 workers, with the hope that all expired collective agreements will soon be renewed.
With reference to the remaining contracts, the hope is that we can undertake a season of negotiations that is mature, responsible and courageous, capable of defending the purchasing power of workers, but also of knowing how to differentiate according to the economic conditions of individuals with a above all a sustainable approach from the entire country system.
For this anniversary I also want to share with you, the great success recently obtained of the definition of Convention 190 of the International Labor Organization on the contrast to all forms of violence in the workplace, making us with great pride the fourth country in Europe, as well as the twelfth. in the world, to have concluded the ratification process.
With this act, testimony was given to the commitment of all parts of our Republic, in keeping high attention to build together a dignified and healthy working life for all, with the commitment made at the highest levels of the World Organization, to verify it with great consistency.
For this reason, I invite all parties to sign the National Multiannual Plan as soon as possible, so that we can immediately start the discussion tables to agree on the regulatory changes necessary to update our legislation, in order to be able to grasp all the most important aspects. of this fundamental Convention.
We are in a moment for the world of work, the data at our disposal indicate that unemployment is at a level that sector analysts define as “physiological”, a term that I do not fully appreciate, but which represents a current cross-section considered considered at the moment satisfactory and reassuring, on which we have the moral obligation to continue working to do even better and in observing the effects of international scenarios.
In fact, the decidedly favorable numbers must not make us slow down, on the contrary, they give us the opportunity to concentrate, on the one hand, in paying attention to those needs and situations of particular criticality in the insertion or reintegration into work and, on the other, in the collaborate to promote a renewed education for work.
This must therefore make us continue with the work of updating the rules available to the system and, on this, I invite all parties to a constructive approach to the commitments and objectives we face, such as the new measures for employment, training and active policies, job inclusion, the revision of social safety nets and, above all, the overall reform of the labor market.
I am sure that if we continue to work with a more systemic approach with respect to the changes that the world is experiencing and in many cases even regretfully, as the experience of this last period has taught us, our country will always be able to take shelter and will be able to grant a a dignified future for all, founding those securities precisely on the most noble principle for people and that is Work.
Happy 1st May everyone.
The Secretary of State
Teodoro Lonfernini
