PRAGUE – Sporty Praguers and tourists alike can soon run a marathon. The Volkswagen Prague Marathon, which is organized by RunCzech with a 25-year history of training marathons, will start on May 8. Thanks to him, Prague is one of the ten best cities in the world in the popular edition, it will be attended by people from more than 100 countries.
107,000 people are attracted to the running marathon in the metropolis. Of these, 34,000 Czech and 13,000 foreign runners are accompanied by their families and friends. “It is the marathon that can become one of the first big drivers of tourism for Prague. The coronavirus pandemic significantly disrupted this, and last year we were unable to invite thousands of runners from abroad, “said Carlo Capalbo, president of the organizing committee of RunCzech, adding that running races will bring Prague up to 693 million crowns.

The live broadcast of the traditional running marathon can be watched by an incredible 718 million spectators in 131 countries. “Magical shots of the Old Town Square, Charles Bridge and other sights in the context of a major sporting event regularly fly around the world on channels such as the BBC, ESPN or Sky TV,” adds municipal spokesman Vít Hofman.

Respect for the environment is also an important part of RunCzech marathons. “For several years, the competitors from the starting point have been involved in planting trees. 3,465 trees and shrubs have already been planted thanks to the support of 7,000 runners in more than 60 places throughout the country, “said Miroslav Kundrata, director of the Partnership Foundation. The goal is to reach the alley 42 kilometers this year (Marathon Alley). RunCzech also works with Light for the World, which treats blindness.
