In Frankfurt’s Paulskirche: Maffay receives music prize | Regional
Frankfurt – The Frankfurt Music Prize goes to artist icon Peter Maffay (72, “Du”) and his band.
The award is endowed with 15,000 euros and was presented yesterday in the Paulskirche. The award was supposed to be presented in 2020, but the ceremony was canceled due to the corona pandemic.
With the music prize, the Board of Trustees of the Frankfurt Music Prize Foundation recognizes the outstanding musical qualities and the “lived artistic and ongoing curiosity” of the group. What is Maffay doing with the prize money? The singer: “It benefits the guests who were accommodated in our foundations, mothers and children who managed to escape the inferno in Ukraine.”
The Frankfurt Music Prize is donated by the Federal Association of German Musical Instrument Manufacturers (BDMH) and Messe Frankfurt.
Another prize was awarded yesterday: the Senckenberg Prize goes to naturalist Prof. Alexandre Antonelli and nature conservationist Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, former head of an outdoor clothing company.
