The grandfather’s demands forced them to wait
Prince Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg is the son of Princess Benedicte of Denmark and the late Prince Richard. The prince is the nephew of Queen Margrethe of Denmark.
In 2003, Prince Gustav met Carina Axelsson at a dinner party with friends.
Well, the royal house in Denmark says that the couple will get married, after 19 years as lovers.
It writes Picturemagazine.
The couple, who are both 53 years old, are getting married on Saturday, June 4th.
Three requirements
The road to gift giving has been long.
In 1939, the prince’s grandfather, Prince Gustav Albrecht of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, wrote a will with strict requirements for the prince’s future spouse.
It said that she would have to be “Aryan, noble and Protestant” if he was to inherit Berleburg Castle in the town of Bad Berleburd, in eastern Germany.
His fiancée, Carina Axelsson, did not meet the requirements, the newspaper writes.
The prince’s future bride, who was previously a model and now a children’s book author, has a Mexican mother, was born a Catholic and her parents are not noble either.
Prince Gustav has for many years worked with his family to get the rule changed.
The highest level of justice in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has after a succession dispute in the family established by the prince is the rightful owner of the castle, thus paving the way for a gift case between the prince and Axelsson.
Close friend
Princess Benedicte of Denmark married Prince Richard to Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg on February 3, 1968. In 2017, the prince died, having been close friends of the Norwegian royal couple for all these years.
Princess Märtha Louise was present at the funeral.
I add to Prince Gustav, they have daughters Princess Alexandra and Princess Nathalie. Princess Märtha Louise is a close friend of the former and was at her wedding in 2019.
