Former Federal President Christian Wulff (CDU) has been honored with the Lower Saxony State Medal. Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) presented it to him in Hanover. The medal is the country’s highest award. Because, Wulff said, I had made outstanding contributions to Lower Saxony. He shaped state politics for a decade and a half and left deep marks in the state that are still visible today. The 62-year-old has been a member of the state parliament since 1994, Prime Minister of Lower Saxony from 2003 to 2010 and Federal President from 2010 to 2012. Wulff was originally supposed to receive the award earlier, as the corona pandemic prevented this. Wulff emphasized that Lower Saxony had given him more than he had given the state. According to the State Chancellery, 22 people are honored with this medal in addition to Wulff. Among them are many politicians, such as the controversial former Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. Some entrepreneurs are also distinguished, for example Dirk Roßmann and Martin Kind.
