Utrecht calls on people to avoid the center • Party in many large cities
Republic, the former Republican Association, expects about eighty demonstrators on the King’s Day route in Maastricht tomorrow. That is what chairman Floris Müller informs 1Limburg† According to Müller, the members of the Republic want to make their voices heard and they want to send a signal against the monarchy. “We give sound to a strong sentiment and no longer support the monarchy.”
Earlier this month it was announced that members of the association were planning to demonstrate on King’s Day. According to them, for the first time there is no longer a majority for succession. The group is based on Ipsos numbers from 2020, which show that only half of the Dutch are still in favor of succession to the throne.
Müller other opposite 1Limburg that do not want to take care of the last stitch tomorrow: “We are going to celebrate this party, but with one in: Willem the last stitch.” The organization wants to hold up a banner with that text along the King’s Day route during the demonstration. The municipality of Maastricht has designated Het Bat, in the center, as the place where this may happen.
