Soon a pack of wolves in the canton of Zurich?
In the canton of Zurich, wolves could soon settle down permanently and form a pack. Experts agree on that. Suitable habitats would be available for the wolf, reports the “Tages-Anzeiger”.
After the recent wolf attack in Bonstetten ZH, in which 25 sheep were born, and a wolf sighting on the Zug-Zurich canton border, more precisely in Gutsch ZG, the question arises as to whether the wolf in the canton of Zurich could change from a transit guest to a permanent roommate?
The answer is yes. Various experts agree on this. “I can imagine that over time a small pack of wolves will settle on the Albis chain or in the Tössstock area,” says Karin Hindenlang Clerc, managing director of the Zurich wilderness park, to the “Tages-Anzeiger”.

If female comes, chances are great
Christian Stauffer, manager of the Kora Foundation, which is responsible for monitoring large carnivores in Switzerland, has a similar view: “The canton of Zurich is easily accessible for young females,” says Stauffer. And with the permanent settlement of the wolf in the canton, the female wolf is crucial.
When a new pack is formed, a female must first settle in the area. That this will happen soon is probably possible, explains Stauffer to the “Tages-Anzeiger”. The wolf density in the cantons of Glarus and Graubünden is now so high that young animals will soon have to look for territories elsewhere.
Lots of forest and enough food
Above all, the region around the Tössstock and the Albis are areas that could be targeted by the wolf. A lot of forest and a rich food supply with deer and red deer lure.
