Religious and civil office in seventeenth-century Siena ”, conference for Three Thursdays at the Opera
The conference intends to illustrate the historical importance of the Sienese seventeenth century, which has always been considered in the shadow of the usual and well-justified interest in the Middle Ages and in the eighteenth-nineteenth century turning point that leads to Contemporary Siena. At that time, the secular and religious powers were essential to cultivate and cultivate the deep-rooted memory of the city, but not without strengthening the traditional creativity of the Sienese. The seventeenth century also marks the moment of pacification of difficult relations with Florence, still linked to the memory of past wars, and is distinguished by the affirmation of three examples of great novelty: the importance assumed by Monte dei Paschi, the modern Palio to the tonda and the figure of the great Pope Alexander VII Chigi, who gave back to Siena that lost and regained cultural and social liveliness.
The conference, with the organization of Opera Laboratori, will also be broadcast live on the Facebook profile of the Siena Duomo Complex.
