Raid against undeclared work at Terminal 3
Customs are conducting a major raid at Frankfurt Airport. The officials check whether undeclared work is taking place at the Terminal 3 construction project.
Frankfurt – Customs are on Tuesday (April 26) to inspect the Terminal 3 construction project on a large scale Airport Frankfurt. The check is part of a Germany-wide operation against undeclared work in the construction industry. According to the main customs office in Frankfurt, 450 police officers and customs officials from Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Gießen are on site, and the controls should take place all day long.
A major focus of customs controls on undeclared work is on the construction industry. The reason for this, in addition to the economic importance of the industry, is also that extensive collective agreements apply to the sector. And they would have to be checked regularly, according to customs.
Frankfurt Airport: Raid against undeclared work at Terminal 3 controlled minimum wages
During the operation on Tuesday (April 26), the officials therefore check, for example, which minimum wage regulations for the workers on terminal 3 apply and whether the corresponding salary was actually paid.
“Our controls help to ensure that there are no higher losses of social security and tax contributions. They are also important so that tax-honest companies can remain competitive on the labor market. In addition, undeclared work leads to inadequate security in the event of illness or old age,” said Christine Straß, press officer at the main customs office Frankfurt.
Raid at Frankfurt Airport: Workers in the construction industry have special rights
Employers have special obligations in the construction industry and also for roofers and scaffolders. In addition to overtime rates or hardship allowances, they also have to provide their employees with an apartment.
It was not until March that customs in Frankfurt raided a ring of illegal workers in the construction industry. (juf)
