“I warmly congratulate Emmanuel Macron for his very clear re-election, historic under the Vand Republic “. Following the re-election of the outgoing President, Jean-Luc Moudencthe mayor (LR) of Toulouseone wanted to speak on the result of the second round of the presidential election.
“This vote preserves the strategic interests of our country”
The city councilor of France’s fourth largest city, where Emmanuel Macron came out on top with 77.48% of the vote, believes that “this French vote preserves the strategic interests of our country in a particularly delicate international and economic context”. .
However, for Jean-Luc Moudenc, “this result should not hide the extent of the difficulties of our country and the challenges to be met. And changes to be made”.
“For French democracy and for the cohesion of the French people, it is urgent to restore positive perspectives to those who resist and fear for their future and that of their children”.
“It is important to consider” those who voted Marine Le Pen
The local elected official also had a thought for the 13.3 million people who put a Marine Le Pen bulletin in the ballot box.
According to him, “these voters are not far right and it is important to consider them, to hear their concerns. We cannot act as if the French people who chose it, abstained or slipped a blank or invalid ballot into the ballot box, i.e. 61% of the electorate, did not exist”.
Jean-Luc Moudenc calls for a “spirit of unity”
Jean-Luc Moudenc also wishes to point out that a good number of voters voted for the outgoing president not out of support, but out of a desire to ” to block “ to its far-right rival.
An observation which, according to him, reveals a fracture in the country and requires “a spirit of unity which is shared by the executive and by all the responsible political families, to accomplish the essential democratic, social and ecological reforms”.
The mayor of Toulouse, found by inviting the President of the Republic to hear the lessons of this second round: “Mr. President, France has come forward, it’s up to you to listen to it”.
