Today, the Prague Council approved a further expansion of the metropolitan tram network. Specifically, it received the green construction of a line in Kukulova Street, which will connect the tram radials in Plzeňská and Bělohorská Streets. This was announced today by Dopravní podnik hl. m of Prague (DPP) in a press release.
According to DPP, the approximately 2.2-kilometer-long clutch will bring “Huge facilitation of transport services in the area of Prague 5 and Prague 6”. In addition, the new line will enable the connection of the Motol depot to the tram line in Bělohorská Street, where today, according to the transport company, there are access routes from the nearest depot “unacceptably long”.
Preliminary investment costs for the construction of a new tram line Motol – Vypich amount to 850 million crowns. Construction of the track should begin after 2026.
Today, the councilors together with the new tram line also approved the electrification of bus lines on the left bank of the Vltava 142 (Nové Butovice – Velká Ohrada), 225 (Velká Ohrada – Nové Vokovice), 174 (Vypich – Nádraží Řeporyje), 184 (Vypich – Velká Ohrada). The plan talks about the years 2026 to 2030. Electrification should cost less than a billion. According to Prague, electrification means the introduction of the operation of partial trolleybuses, which run part of the route under the trolley and part battery.
