The houses in Prague 6 should be repaired for the home for the elderly according to the design of Škard’s architects
Prague – Houses in Šolínova Street in Prague 6 should be for the needs of the Home for the Elderly (DPS) Eliška Purkyňová according to the modified design of the Škarda architects studio. The design won an architectural competition announced last year by the Prague City Council through its organization. According to representatives of the metropolis, the reconstruction of the building could have been completed at the turn of 2024 and 2025. Representatives of Prague and Eva Kalhousová, DPS director Eliška Purkyňová, told ČTK today. Now the building at Vítězné náměstí is unused.
After the reconstruction, the building was to be transformed into a center of services intended especially for seniors, as stated by the councilor of the capital Milena Johnová (Prague Sobě). This should create, among other things, a residential facility for the elderly, a home with a special regime and areas for relief services. The building will have a doctor’s office, pharmacy, cafe and a hall for cultural events. Johnová has previously stated that the price for the transformation of an uninhabited house is estimated at 550 million crowns.
The architectural competition for the future appearance of the houses was announced last June and was two-round. The winning design was selected by a jury that included architects Pavel Hnilička, Lenka Burgerová, Pavel Nasadil and Marek Tichý, among others. The chairman of the competition jury was Jiří Plos, a legal advisor to the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA).
The buildings at Victory Square were built between 1922 and 1924. At that time, they were used to accommodate abandoned people and people without families. In the end, it housed a home for the elderly. In 2013, however, due to the poor condition of Eliška Purkyňová’s DPS houses, he moved to Břevnov. Prague 6 originally intended to repair and operate the three-story house at its own expense, but eventually agreed in cooperation with the Prague City Hall.
