The castle pond in Prague-Čakovice is newly repaired
At the end of last year, the Lesy Hl. of the City of Prague overhaul of the water area in the middle of the castle park in Prague-Čakovice. Several months have passed and the pond full of water is again home to many aquatic animals. The rapid spring development of greenery is helping to erase traces of the construction in its vicinity, the company states in its report.
The castle pond was taken over by the capital city of Prague in 2020. The following year, it was revitalized by our organization. The pond, which was created after 1849, originally had up to 1 hectare, later part of it was backfilled. During the maintenance-free years, over 3,500 m3 of sediment accumulated in it, which had to be dredged and first removed.
“Subsequently, we were able to repair the eroded banks, flowing dams and water management facilities. We leveled the disturbed banks with the ground and fortified it with a heavy boulder plain. Another big problem was a leaking dam. This had to be extracted from the upstream side and resealed with the introduced clay soil. Then we fortified it again with stone paving. As part of the revitalization, the filling pipeline, which supplies water from the Sugar Pond, was also repaired. Because the pond also serves local fishermen, we have newly built a fishing ground, a paddock and a safe descent into the pond, which will facilitate its fishing, ”said the company. The pond now also has a new suspension pier and a stone staircase, which makes the water reservoir accessible to visitors to the chateau complex, of which the pond is a part.
The total revitalization costs, which exceeded CZK 20 million, were covered by the capital city of Prague.
