Pupils from Prague 14 celebrated Earth Day with educational workshops on waste management
In cooperation with Prague 14 and the non-profit organizations Arnika and Bezobal, the Černý Most Center organized an ecologically motivated program for children from the first grade of primary schools and the last year of kindergartens in Prague 14. These were two practical educational workshops where students learned basic information on composting at home and on the waste recycling process.

The first educational workshop on the topic of composting at home took place under the auspices of the non-profit organization Arnika, which has been working to protect the environment since 2001. During the professional lesson, the children learned what they could do to generate as little waste as possible, especially at home. The workshop also included a practical demonstration and acquaintance with the vermicomposter. “Children have learned what a vermicomputer looks like, where it can be at home and why it is useful. Last but not least, the children are convincingly convinced that waste can also be used as material for new products, and thus concepts such as upcycling or recycling have been clearly explained to them, ”says Tereza Kovalčíková from the non-profit organization.
Pupils from Prague 14 celebrated Earth Day and learned about waste management. The second workshop on the topic of Plastic Island took place in the Maxíkov children’s center, where the non-profit organization Bezobal introduced the issue of waste better to children. The long-term goal of the organization is to increase awareness of the Zero Waste concept, which it fulfills not only in its non-packaging sales, but also in the form of lectures and educational activities. And it is with this concept that children in the Black Bridge Center are in practice. Pupils looked at different subjects and learned to recognize which are sustainable and which are for one use only. The workshop also included a fun game Where with, during which the children named different types of materials and learned to sort them into the right bins for recycling. During the lecture, they also learned how long these materials decompose in nature and how many times a particular material can be recycled.
The Černý Most Center strives for enlightenment and education in the field of a more sustainable lifestyle, not only on Earth Day. Directly in the Center, for example, the so-called Eco Point is available to visitors all year round, where families with children can stop and find out how and what to sort correctly. They can also try recycling right here. “In the Černý Most Center, we sort up to 18 types of waste and our customers can recycle traditional plastic, paper and glass, as well as cans. It is also possible to carry unnecessary toys, books and clothes to the Center, in a special Toy Box, Book Booth and Potex textile container. Instead of creating unnecessary waste, these things can continue to serve someone else or make you happy, “adds Barbora Sádlová, marketing manager of the Černý Most Center.
You will find an overview of other ecological activities of the Center, such as flushing with gray water or beekeeping here.
