The small hall of Lyon will definitely not leave good memories in Caen this season. The CBC, which had let the victory slip away in the regular season, lost two small points in the first round of the playoffs, Sunday April 24, 2022 (81-77). The Caennais nevertheless spent most of the match in the lead but the score remained tight, like the 34-34 recorded at the break. The last quarter, achieved with a three-point lead, was fatal to the Caennais.
Last two unbreathable minutes
The match, however, was played in the last two minutes. An interception followed by a counter-attack from Martins Igbanu allowed the visitors to regain the lead (69-70, 38′). It was the last time in the game, since the Normans made too many mistakes afterwards to hope to win. Two balls lost by Bryson Pope, an uncertain address and the solidity of Marc-Antoine Pellin on the free throw line allowed the locals to win the debates. Caen, returned to a small point by Fred Loubaki 22 seconds from time, however fought.
A decisive return match
The Caennais could not count on the usual impact of Moïse Diamé, limited to 6 points (3/11 in shooting). The Senegalese, however, grabbed 13 rebounds. The three-point address was also failing.
The return match will take place at the Palais des Sports on Friday April 29, 2022. If Caen wins, it will be entitled to a nice two days later in its cauldron. If he loses, the playoffs will already be over…
