Heger: Slovakia will pay Russia for gas in euros in May – Energy – Economy
Slovakia will pay Russia for gas in euros in the second half of May. He stated this in the RTVS Saturday Dialogues program of the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic Eduard Heger (OĽANO).
“We will pay in euros. That’s the plan, “he said. According to him, on the basis of security from the Ministry of Economy, sufficient gas is provided for households at least until April 2023, even if there is a sudden interruption of its supplies from Russia. “But we need to find a permanent source of gas,” he said.
He noted that if gas supplies fell out of Russia, “Europe has a serious problem.” “Therefore, the discussion is that we are looking for a permanent solution (supply),” he said.
According to him, liquefied gas supplies will “create gro” alternatives to gas supplies from Russia. “Of course, higher efficiency, then alternative energy sources, where the transition from fossil fuels to other energy sources,” he said of the alternatives to the Russian source.

According to him, the original plan for the transition from fossil fuels to other energy sources was long, for decades. “We can see now that we need to speed up the transition. However, it must be said that fossil fuels will also be part of the future (energy) solution, they will only come from another source, so we are talking about liquefied gas. It depends on the country. The largest processing is Germany, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Hungary, ie the countries that are most dependent on Russian gas and oil, “he announced.
According to him, it would be best if the dependence on Russian fuels was achieved as quickly as possible. “If we succeeded by the end of next year, it was a great success. We have to do everything we can to make it happen, “Heger emphasized.
He also reminded that this week the governing coalition presented measures that should help citizens in the face of rising inflation. “So we are communicating with SaS, the negotiations have been difficult. However, they are open for us to discuss further. that we will find common ground and that we will approve the measures in the parliament, “the Prime Minister added in connection with the fact that SaS representatives did not participate in the presentation of social measures.
