The Holy Light, a miracle of Orthodoxy, which takes place every year
The Holy Light is a miracle of Orthodoxy, which takes place every year during Vespers on Holy Saturday. Between 12:30 and 14:30, a fire is lit above the Holy Sepulcher, which those who witnessed the miracle say are descending from heaven.
The Holy Sepulcher has been inspected since Good Friday, immediately after Prohod. The check is carried out by three police officers, usually an Arab, a Turk and a Jew. Their role is detected if there is a source of fire in the room of the holy tomb. Police are also searching for those entering the area during the religious ceremony. Once they are allowed access, the lights go out and the door is sealed.
The Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem is also controlled by the police, in the presence of witnesses belonging to all denominations. He unsealed the entrance to the Tomb and entered the first room, the “Angel’s Chapel”, accompanied – according to tradition – only by an Arab of Islamic religion.
