The African savannah in the Prague Zoo is repopulated
He welcomed his usual seasonal inhabitants together with spring through a large African enclosure at the Prague Zoo. Crow antelopes, white-fronted buffaloes, beisa rhinoceroses and almost two dozen red waterlings – all of them have been racing across the grassy meadow near the African House since Thursday. On Friday morning, they were joined by the most colorful African ungulates – Grevy’s zebras and, above all, a herd of northern Nubian giraffes.
“We really only see such mass enthusiasm in animals once a year when they first run out.” describes photos by ungulate curator Barbora Dobiášová. “This year, the enclosure is also extended by a space that leads to the footbridge leading to the future Gorilla Pavilion. That’s why we have created a new feeding place for antelopes there, so you will appreciate that the other parties will be able to observe well. “
The African enclosure at the top of the zoo will remain inhabited until the return of cold weather. Then thermophilic species are traditionally taken to winter quarters in winter quarters. It ends in mid-October.
