Toulouse: we explain why some inhabitants of Toulouse no longer receive DTT
For several months, some Toulouse residents have been complaining about poor reception of DTT, digital terrestrial television. The fault, in particular with a problem of orientation of the antenna.
Patrick is disabled. His daily life is made up of many restrictions. The television then appears as a number. So when his flat screen no longer picks up the channels of digital terrestrial television (TNT), the Toulousain hastened to find a solution. “I reinstalled the chains, but several were missing. I looked at the cables, then the connection did nothing… I understood that the problem was more important by calling a technician,” he admits.
The expert commissioned by Patrick analyzes the problem. And the main reasons are on the roof of the building. The television antenna is not directed towards the antenna on the heights of Toulouse. The signal is therefore not clear. “I understood that anyone could encounter this difficulty. There are two transmitting antennas in Toulouse for television. In my neighborhood, we depended on the Lafilaire site. Suddenly we went to the antenna of the Pech David site. So I have to change the orientation of my dish on the roof to receive the signal”.
Changes in transmitting sites
In Toulouse, the broadcasting antennas are changing and some neighborhoods are confused. Jolimont, L’Hers and Bonnefoy are particularly affected. Some residents will have to call a technician to reorient their antennas. Hamid, repair expert at “Télé Jean Rieux”, regularly deals with this complication. “Television stations change regularly. Once in Pech David, the other time in Côte Pavée. A few years for individuals it becomes complicated. You must always reorient your antenna following the transmitter site,” admits the technician.
What especially annoys professionals in the business is the lack of communication from TDF, the company responsible for frequency coverage in Toulouse. “When there is a change, we are not aware of anything. It’s unpleasant for people. We direct an antenna in one direction so that in the end, a few months later, there is another site that relays the waves…”, complains Hamid.
