The 10 iconic cars of the Sotheby’s Monaco sale:
Classic among the classics, a Jaguar E-Type from 1961 3.8 L in English green and … convertible! No additional details or estimate of the Sotheby’s part yet, but a Series 1, equipped with the six-cylinder XK, roadster version: all the ingredients are there to explode the selling price! Equally cult, but less chic (though…), a Citroen 2CV 4×4 “Sahara” from 1964 with its spare wheel attached to the hood, should also charm Monegasque high rollers.
On crossing the Alps, direction Italy with a trio led by a trident. The Maserati Ghibli coupé signed Ghia is certainly one of the most underrated Italian cars of the sixties. Although for a few years, it has taken over the hair of the beast, with a modernized and hybrid version, but also on the collection market. Then comes a Lamborghini Miura SV from 1971, exhibited that year at the Boston Auto Show and a magnificent Ferrari Dino 246 GTS from 1973, delivered plum “Rosso Cordoba”, which counts among its former owners… Laetitia Casta! A bit faster than a blue bicycle.
For those who prefer the heel-toe and the floor to the floor à la dolce vita, three options at the Sotheby’s auction in Monaco: a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7the first one Renault 5Turbo homologated for Group 4 (driven by Ragnotti!), and another rally queen, theAudi Sport quattrodelivered bright red, white rims, concours condition… a killer!
Finally, a Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante – the name of the British manufacturer for its convertible models – the other James Bond car which is experiencing a resurgence in popularity with the rise of youngtimers. Finally comes the big star of the 80s, the Lamborghini Countach25th anniversary edition, its V12 under its yellow bodywork, which displays only 27,495 km.
