Sweden awards the king’s medal to the battery pioneer Dr. Christina
STOCKHOLM, Sweden, April 21, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Cadenza Innovation, the award-winning supplier of safe, low-performance, high-performance lithium-ion batteries (Li-ion) and energy storage solutions, announced today that founder and CEO Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud has been selected as one of Sweden’s most prestigious awards – The King’s Medal. The internationally respected, 25-year-old thought leader and entrepreneur in the battery industry is praised for his outstanding contribution to Swedish business.

Founded in the early 1800s, His Majesty the King’s Medal is awarded to Swedish and foreign citizens for special merits and also to executives at the Royal Courts. Previous recipients include Spotify’s founder and CEO Daniel Ek, Hitachi Energy (formerly ABB) EVP Johan Söderstrom and iZettle (acquired by PayPal) founder and CEO Jacob De Geer.

Dr. Lampe-Onnerud is known for developing and commercializing Li-ion batteries and is an expert on topics ranging from energy storage, battery safety, climate change and cleantech to new financial models and partnership models and female entrepreneurship. She has more than 80 patents and has delivered several beginners in the battery industry in portable electronics, electric vehicles (EV), public utility and commercial / industrial sectors. Dr. Lampe-Onnerud’s work has earned her many awards, including recognition as a dual technology pioneer by the World Economic Forum. She is honored as an Ernst & Young (EY) Entrepreneur Of The Year for the New England region and active in EY’s annual Entrepreneurial Winning Women competition program and executive education program. A MIT Technology Review Innovator Under 35 Award recipients, she is a member of MIT’s Visitors Committee.
Born and raised in Sweden by a father whose inventions helped to power today’s electricity network and a mother who devoted herself to teaching and education. Dr. Lampe-Onnerud’s love for both science and art was instilled at an early age and she excelled. on both. In the end, she chose science as her career, she took her undergraduate and doctoral degrees at Uppsala University, followed by postdoctoral work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. From there, she embarked on a career that continues to take her around the world.
As a member of the highly respected Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences and recipient of the prestigious Woman of the Year award from the Swedish Women’s Education Association International (SWEA), Dr Lampe-Onnerud’s Swedish heritage is a source of pride. She met her husband, Dr. Per Onnerud, as a teenager in Dalarna, where they grew up and for whom she has been appointed honorary ambassador. Today, he serves as technical manager at Cadenza Innovation and is also an internationally respected battery expert. The couple has two college children, Anna-Maria and Mattias.
