3 good reasons to come to the Monaco E-Prix
Twenty-two world-class drivers, eleven teams and a legendary circuit. Enough to promote a day full of… electric power. The Monaco E-Prix continues to move upmarket, year after year. And if the 2021 show was sensational with many overruns, the 2022 edition promises to impress… Here are three good reasons -among many others- to come to the E-Prix this year.
For the thrill of motorsport
The Formula E circuit promises incredible sensations: nineteen corners, 3.3 km of fast straights and tricky chicanes. For this edition, the route is identical to that of Formula 1. The drivers thus pass in front of the Place du Casino and find the mythical crossing of the tunnel, the fastest section of the circuit. A route particularly favorable to technological innovations in electric vehicles. Indeed, before, the cars were not powerful enough to support the rise of Mirabeau, for example.
Unlike the Monaco Grand Prix which is held over 3 days, Formula E takes place over a single day. From 7.30 am then at 9.10 am two free practice sessions take place and then, at 10.45 am, qualifying begins. Two groups of 11 drivers will try to achieve the best time after 12 minutes of racing. The first four of each group will then compete in a system of duels set up since this season. The winners of the quarter-finals then the semi-finals advance in the table for a final around 12 noon on a lap determining the Pole Position. Finally, around 3 p.m., it’s time for the race!
The E-Prix are also interactive races as five drivers are awarded a Fanboost, a power boost of 25 kW for 5 seconds. This Fanboost is voted for by the public on the Formula E social networks, before and during the race! The 2022 edition brings together on the grid the Frenchman and current leader Jean-Éric Vergne but also the reigning World Champion Nyck de Vries or even Robin Frijns, António Félix da Costa and Stoffel Vandoorne.
For the transition to a sustainable future
During the first season in Monaco in 2015, the first generation car was used by all teams. At the time, the autonomy of the 28 KWh batteries was not enough to complete the 45 minutes of lessons. All the drivers therefore had to stop in the paddock to change cars in the middle of the competition. In just a few years, the technological evolution of electric racing cars has been dazzling, paralleling sustainable development at the heart of racing.
Formula E’s mission is to educate about sustainable practices by raising awareness of air pollution and promoting electric mobility in championship host cities. The all-electric series is a laboratory for manufacturers to transfer technologies developed for motor racing to the production cars of tomorrow. In addition to their 100% electric motors, the same set of tires is used throughout the duration of the competition and then 100% recycled, an environmentally responsible approach.
For the show at the Allianz E-Village
The Allianz E-Village is THE immersive festival for Formula E fans at the heart of every E-Prix. A place dedicated to entertainment, exploration and innovation for young and old on the sidelines of motor racing. Many shows are offered throughout the day, not to mention a live music area to relax or let off steam on the track! It will also be an opportunity to regain strength in the catering area and discover the innovative Allianz hydration stations!
And fans will be spoiled with the Gaming Arena where they could rub shoulders with the biggest by participating in competitions on simulators and perhaps win many gifts! Many other activities will be offered to stimulate the imagination of young fans and encourage their curiosity about innovation and sustainability.
