Oleksander lives in the Netherlands, his family in the Donbas: ‘Democracy and freedom must win’
Lots of contact
Oleksander has a lot of contact with his family, he says in the broadcast. “I know where they are at the moment. I can get in touch with them, so I hear how they are doing every day. That’s nice, but also heavy and difficult. There is no war here, it’s just nice weather here, no missiles over our heads. That’s a crazy idea.”
Improving the fight for his army. “All the men are now in the war, all the women, children and old people are now in the bomb shelters.” It is a mixed feeling to be in the Netherlands, he says. For example, today he took an exam for his studies. “It works a bit, but still make the best of it to target me. I’ll try the best.”
Freedom and Democracy
In September 2016, Oleksander applied for asylum in the Netherlands. “It was no longer safe for me because of my sexual orientation, because I am gay. When the war started, I proposed to bring my family to the Netherlands as well, but my mother and sister-in-law want to stay in Ukraine. It was a choice decision. “
Oleksander has hope that Ukraine will win the war. “We will fight until the last drop of blood, democracy and freedom must win. Ukraine will surely die and win unexpected war. I will have a good feeling that will come.”
