Bulgaria defeated Mexico for a third of the World Cup
The Bulgarian national ice hockey team recorded its first victory at the World Championship in Division II – Group B, which is being held in Iceland. In their second match of the tournament, the Bulgarians dominated for most of the duration and reached the category 6: 2 (2: 2, 4: 0, 0: 0) against Mexico.
Martin Nikolov shone with two goals and one assist for success. Vesselin Dikov, Tomislav Georgiev and Miroslav Vassilev added a goal and one finishing pass. With today’s assets, Tomislav Georgiev has four points (2 goals and 2 assists) and is one of the leaders in scoring. He also scored one goal, Martin Nakov was also accurate, and Mario Atanasov scored three assists.
The Mexicans took the lead twice in the first third match of the match, as Mahul gave his home team the lead in 6:40 minutes, after which Miroslav Vassilev equalized. Chavez scored again for the Aztecs in 13:13 minutes, but before minutes passed Veselin Dikov restored two parities. In the second half the Bulgarians decided the match with four unanswered goals.
Bulgarian goalkeeper Dimitar Dimitrov made 32 saves, only surrendering to Hector Mahul and Tyler Chavez, who scored for Mexico.
With this victory, Bulgaria already has three points, as many as Iceland and Georgia have collected. Mexico and Belgium are without active. Today the Bulgarian team is resting, and on April 21 they will play against Belgium. The matches, which are later on Wednesday, will oppose the hosts from Iceland with Georgia from 19:30 Bulgarian time, as well as Mexico – Belgium from 23:00.
Bulgaria’s third match is against Belgium and will take place on Thursday (April 21st) at 21:00.
