no chat with pupils
Not just rules of conduct. But also a new discipline for the use of social networks. After the storm unleashed by the chat between the president of the Montale high school and a final year student, the executives decided to keep a rigid line. “We want there to be very specific rules. This is to help both professors and students to orient themselves on the correct use of chats and social profiles »explains Mario Rusconi, president of Assopresidi. Hence, the “Teachers standards”, that is the teacher’s handbook announced last February and arriving by 2022, is getting longer. During the last meeting (9 and 10 April), the principals agreed on the last 50 lines to follow. Therefore, the code of conduct for chats will also be included in the substantial list of disciplinary rules.
The rules
A draft has already been drawn up: «The first rule – announces the principal Rusconi – will prohibit private conversations. Families, students and teachers teach through communicating the school ». The only exception is for emergency communications. Such as for example the cancellation of a trip, the suspension of unscheduled school lessons. Again: «In the new rules, teachers will not be allowed to have conversations via WhatsApp or via social networks with students’ parents. Also in this case, a necessary measure to avoid misunderstandings »adds Rusconi. New rules are also coming for students who must adhere to the utmost attention to photos, posts and comments published on their social profiles that «do not leave the image of the institute».
In this case with a clarification: «Even those who add“ like ”to a post that damages the image of the school risks being sanctioned» explains the president of Assopresidi. And for students, the sanctions that dean and professor jobs are thinking about are socially useful. So: hours of volunteer work. “Families will be called and together it will be decided what to do to the sanctioned pupils. There are precedents and of course, parents need to be involved in determining the type of social work that is useful. It is not a question of punishments, but of helping the boy to mature also in the use of social networks ».
The vademecum
The decision to forward the booklet with the rules of conduct to all teachers came last February. After the heated controversies that were first ignited by Augusto Righi. Last February 15 a teacher had filmed a student “What about Salaria?” pointing to the shirt that is too short. The controversy flared up and spread to the point of provocation, so much so that the next day, the schoolmates all showed up in a skirt and top. Just three days later, a former teacher from the same institute now a substitute at the Orazio classical high school, had posted a sexist and offensive phrase on his Facebook and Instagram profiles: “Today we are praying, even secular, for all those who send their daughters to school dressed as tr … ». another fuss at the comprehensive Bruno De Finetti institute, in Fonte Laurentina. A teacher has in fact decided to project a video of a very particular modern heroine in a classroom: “All Potatoes”. A name that suggests almost everything. Hence the decision to decide on new and rigid rules of conduct. Taking up the standard teachers already followed in France and England. In fact, a full-bodied list of rules to govern not only the teaching rules, but above all those of behavior with students. To which now also those on the use of social networks will be added.
