Paludan announces new markings in Linköping and Norrköping
Paludan, who leads the far-right Danish party Tight Course, is on tour in Sweden to burn the Koran.
On Thursday, there were violent clashes between the police and counter-protesters in both Linköping and Norrköping, where Paludan had to cancel his announced burning of the Koran.
On Friday, he trooped up to the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby, where a stone was thrown and eight were arrested when Paludan set fire to a copy of the Koran.
Chaotic
On Friday night, it ended with violent clashes between the police and counter-protesters when Paludan was to burn the Koran in Örebro. Twelve police officers were injured and several police cars were set on fire, and the conditions were described as chaotic.
On Saturday, the trip had come to Landskrona where Paludan was ordered by the police to move his notified marking to a rest area outside the city. Also there it ended up throwing stones at the police, like blacks with pepper spray.
Saturday evening and night to Sunday, there were riots in the Malmö district Rosengård where stones and firebombs were thrown at the police. A bus and several cars were set on fire.
Not permission
Paludan continues the tour, however, and on Sunday Stram Kurs announced on his Facebook page that he would once again demonstrate in Linköping and Norrköping, something the Swedish police have not given permission for.
– We have acted received or processed any application, says police operations manager Mikael Backman.
– We do not need permission after the police do not protect demonstrations, even though they have been given permission, Paludan writes on his website.
Will expel Muslims
Paludan’s party Tight Course was founded in 2017 and will ban Islam and deport all Muslims.
In 2020, Paludan was sentenced to three months in prison for defamation and racist statements against Muslims during a demonstration in Denmark.
The same year he was denied entry to Sweden for two years. It happened after there were violent riots in Malmö in connection with a celebration where he had to burn a copy of the Koran, wrapped in bacon, as he has done several times in Denmark.
Paludan has since been granted Swedish citizenship since parts of the family are Swedish.
