Ophthalmology Congress in Budapest, 1972 | Women page
Interesting from the archives of the Women’s Journal.
After Athens, Vienna and Amsterdam, Budapest is now the venue for the four-yearly congress of the European Ophthalmological Society. The interest is very high, with thousands coming from 46 countries, with 500 escorts. So far, so many participants have not been to the congresses of the European Ophthalmological Society. Professor Dr. Magda Radnót, director of the Budapest Ophthalmology Clinic No. 1, president of the congress, is an international authority in ophthalmology. She expects grandmother and practical results from the presentations of the five-day consultation, from the personal contacts and exchanges of views of practicing physicians and researchers.
The main theme of the congress, “Functional Examinations in Ophthalmology,” will be on the agenda in more than twenty papers and will cover virtually every important area of modern examination methods. “Anyone in the profession who has a say on this topic,” dr. Magda Radnót – will be in Budapest ”. As in all branches of medicine, prevention is paramount. The topics of some of the lectures are: the development of vision; color vision; object vision; visual acuity, etc. There will be symposia on the following topics: endocrine system and the eye, (e.g. the effect of contraceptives); implantation of synthetic materials; the eye is important in the functioning of different organs; ultrastructure of the eye, etc.
They occupy a prominent place in the congress at conferences on occupational and industrial injuries and injuries.
Today, more people wear glasses than ever before, due to the early and reliable diagnosis of visual disturbances, and the fact that they are less and less averse to this readily available “medical aid”. Many villagers recently protested against the “pope’s eye,” but today it has almost become “fashionable” in the countryside over glasses.
Government-level and embassy receptions, a decorative performance at the Erkel Theater, a scientific and instrumental exhibition will make the Budapest Congress memorable and hospitable. New products for the ophthalmic pharmaceutical and instrumentation industries in European countries are introduced.
The European Liaison Society shall meet. Contact glass has evolved a lot in recent years. In some cases, the only good solution, but it is still fashionable right now. Of course, it may be appropriate for actors and athletes.
The Council of the International and European Ophthalmological Society will also meet in Budapest. The venue, time and theme of the next European Ophthalmology Congress in four years’ time will be decided here. The Congressus Quartus Societatis Ophthalmologicae Europaeae, held at the MÉMOSZ Headquarters from 17 to 21 April, proves the recognition of Hungarian ophthalmology, which has a long tradition.
