The number of refugees processed in Prague fell by 12 percent last week

Prague – 4,538 people have been handled at the Prague Center for Ukrainian Refugees in the last seven days, which is 12 percent less than in the previous week. In total, the center has handled about 74,000 people. It follows from the information on twitter Prague firefighters who help with the operation of the center. 294 people were checked in on Friday, almost half as much as a week ago.
At the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, the number of refugees checked in at the Prague center serving both Prague and the Central Bohemian Region was in the thousands. The record day was March 8, when the center served 3,667 refugees. In the past week, the number of people checked in just one day slightly exceeded one thousand.
The centers, which are located throughout the Czech Republic, offer refugees from Ukraine assistance with registration, accommodation, documents, job placement or insurance. On Thursday, the Prague center moved to new premises in the building of the former headquarters of Komerční banka near the Vysočanská metro station. It was originally located in the Congress Center. The reason for the move was the already contracted events in the Congress Center, including those for the Czech Republic’s presidency of the European Union.
The Czechia has already granted almost 293,000 special visas to refugees from war-torn Ukraine. 1218 of them were released on Friday, about 1200 less than a week ago. It follows from the data on today twitter published by the Ministry of the Interior. According to earlier statements by Interior Minister Vít Rakušan (STAN), the total number of people who fled to the Czech Republic from Ukraine before the Russian invasion has stabilized at 300,000.
Temporary protection visas that Ukrainians in the Czech Republic receive can stay in the country for up to a year. At the same time, they have access to public health insurance, education, the labor market and are entitled to additional assistance, for example in accommodation. The number of visas issued this week ranged from around 2,700 to 3,900 in the previous days. Last week, the number of visas issued on each day ranged from around 2,300 to 3,700.
Interior Minister Austrian said at a meeting of the parliamentary security committee on Thursday that the total number of refugees from Ukraine in the Czech Republic now stands at around 300,000 and is not growing. According to him, some refugees are leaving the Czech Republic. The vast majority of Ukrainian refugees, more than three-quarters, form data Ministry as of April 12 women. Two-fifths of people fleeing the Russian attack are children and adolescents under the age of 18.
More than five million people have fled the country since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said on Friday. According to earlier information, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) of at least 1,892 civilians died on Tuesday during the war in Ukraine.
