Coronavirus in Prague: Five thousand cases a week, the epidemic has slowed
In Prague, the number of people hospitalized with covid-19 decreased by about a tenth last week. The city’s hospitals had an average of 157 people with covid-19 in the last week, compared to 178 in the previous week. This follows from data on the website of the Ministry of Health. Last week, an average of ten people were hospitalized with a covid-19 in severe condition in Prague, while in the previous week there were an average of 13 people in intensive care units. As of Thursday, 1,245 were hospitalized throughout the Czech Republic, of which 74 were in severe condition.
According to the ministry, there were 467 vacant standard beds with oxygen in hospitals in Prague this morning, which is 18 percent of the total number. There were 52 beds with artificial lung ventilation available in the city, ie 11 percent. The situation in Prague is worse than the average in the Czech Republic. In the whole country, the share of vacant beds with oxygen and lung ventilation is currently 26 percent.
As well as the number of hospitalized, the daily increase in those infected is gradually decreasing in Prague. According to the website of the Ministry of Health, 665 cases of infections were newly confirmed in the city on Thursday, which was almost a third less than a week ago. In the last seven days, there have been 4791 confirmed cases of the disease in Prague, whereas in the previous week 6401 were newly infected.
However, Prague is still the region with the largest so-called incidence number in the whole of the Czech Republic. The incidence number, ie the number of new coronavirus infections in the last seven days per 100,000 population, was 359 cases in Prague to date. There were 218 cases in the whole Czech Republic and the lowest was 135 cases in the Liberec Region.
Half a million cases
Since the beginning of the covid-19 epidemic in the Czech Republic in March 2020, a total of about 505,000 cases of coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Prague. 3552 people died with covid-19. Since the beginning of the covid-19 vaccination in December 2020, over 3.2 million doses of the vaccine have been given in Prague, about 1.2 million people have been fully vaccinated and about 713,000 people have received another booster dose.
