Chiusi Lake, from the Municipality and University of Siena an agreement for a study on the state of health
The agreement between the Departments of Life Sciences and Sciences, Physics of the Earth and the Environment of the University of Siena and our Municipality was signed yesterday, Wednesday 13 April, for the implementation of the activities to be carried out in the a study on the state of the ichthyofauna of Lake Chiusi, on the quality of the tributaries waters, on the herpetofauna (amphibians and aquatic reptiles), on the fauna and an update and implementation of knowledge on the vegetation of the lake through both a bibliographic research and both through the collection of new data on vegetation.
Lake Chiusi represents one of the most important wetlands in central Italy, being in fact, along the migratory routes of birds and constituting an important area for stopping during migration, wintering and nesting of numerous bird species.
Our lake also preserves aquatic environments of considerable value due to the presence of invertebrates and plants of conservation interest, while its fauna is now compromised due to the presence of numerous alien species necessary for fishing purposes. It is for this reason that the project is therefore appropriate to evaluate the actual state of health of the lake and the species and plants that inhabit it, so as to take specifics in this regard.
βIt is the will of the municipal administration – Claudio del Re, group leader in the municipal council with responsibility for the lake and agriculture – affirms – to invest and protect our lake. Already in the electoral campaign he is required to monitor and protect the health of our Chiaro “.
