Hanover (dpa / lni) – Lower Saxony’s head of government Stephan Weil (SPD) wished the Lower Saxony a happy and peaceful Passover festival and also recalled the suffering of the war in Ukraine. “Pessach is an important festival for the Jewish community – a festival of freedom that conveys hope and confidence even in difficult times,” the prime minister said in a statement on Thursday. “May peace return to Ukraine and all other war zones in the world.”
The Passover festival begins this Friday and lasts until April 23rd. It commemorates the exodus of the Jewish people from ancient Egypt and their liberation from slavery.
The people of Ukraine want nothing more than freedom and peace, said Weil. “It is terrible and unbearable that many Jews – including elderly Holocaust survivors – are forced to flee Ukraine.” The Prime Minister thanked the Jewish communities in Lower Saxony for their solidarity with the refugees from Ukraine.
