Chalgrove Cavaliers call Gothia Cup in Sweden after Oxfordshire cup success
CHALGROVE Cavaliers Under 16s made it a weekend to remember as they took two trophies in 24 hours.
On Saturday, the teens beat NPL Cosmos 4-2 in Binfield, Berkshire, to win the East Berks Football Alliance League Cup.
They were back in Oxfordshire the next day for the County Cup final, beating Bullingdon Youth 4-0 at Court Place Farm.
Head coach Dave Cove said: “As a young team, they were brilliant all weekend and supported each other every step of the way.
“I’m so proud of each and every one of them; it is simply a dream come true as we move towards the end of the season, and the end of an era, with youth football under 16 for the team that ends this year.
“I would like to thank all the players, the club and the parents for playing a big part in this fantastic achievement – it really is a real team effort.”
The team has set its sights on a trip to the Swedish city of Gothenburg in July for the Gothia Cup’s youth tournament.
More than 1,500 teams from around the world will participate.
Players aim to raise £ 5,000 to fund the trip and will run, cycle and walk a total of 667 miles – the distance from Chalgrove Recreation Ground to Gothenburg.
