Mountain bike routes planned for the central area – salzburg.ORF.at

While there are already many legal mountain bike trails, especially in the Pinzgau, those in the central area around the city of Salzburg are still missing. Concrete projects are to be implemented this year, according to the federal forests. In most cases they are the landowners.
A route on the Gaisberg in the city of Salzburg from the Gaisbergspitze in the direction of Guggenthal (Flachgau) is planned below – but the submission is still pending. Also in Hallein (Tennengau) plans are being made for the Zinkenkogel. The federal forests speak of three different routes with a total length of around ten kilometers that are to be built in autumn.
“If you want to bike legally, you have to drive for 90 minutes”
The managing director of the Zinkenlifte, Andreas Klimitsch, said that this was an “ambitious statement”. “Of course, everything has to be clarified with the residents in advance, and for that you also need the budgetary possibilities and means – and that also means a decision on this. And when all this WILL be done, you can start implementing it.”
The Salzburg Mountain Bike Club also provides advice on the Zinkenkogel and on the Gaisberg. It was founded two years ago and is primarily committed to legal cycle routes in the central area. It is currently the case that you have to drive 90 minutes to Leogang or Saalbach-Hinterglemm (Pinzgau) in order to be able to “legally bike”, said chairman Andreas Hörlsberger. “It doesn’t make sense from an environmental or climate policy point of view, if something were possible instead of on the doorstep in Salzburg or 20 minutes away in Hallein, then everyone would be of great help.”
New routes also planned for inner mountains
Also in Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Leogang, two routes are to be built in autumn on areas of the federal forest. We are talking about the approximately four-kilometer-long “Schönleitentrail” and the approximately five-kilometer-long “Wildenkartrail”.
