Monaco confirms its presence on the F1 calendar after 2022
Michel Boeri, president of the Automobile Club de Monaco, wanted to reassure fans by denying rumors about the uncertain future of the Monaco Grand Prix after the 2022 edition.
The Formula 1 calendar has continued to evolve in recent years with the addition of new destinations such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia or even Las Vegas from 2023 which could jeopardize – according to rumors – certain Grands Prix historic calendars like Monaco. A few days ago, moreover, the CEO of McLaren estimated that a Grand Prix like Monaco – which does not pay any fees to F1 to host a Grand Prix – will have to adapt quickly to continue to attract the premier category. streets of the Principality where the races are most often processions as overtaking is almost impossible.
The contract linking Formula 1 to the Monaco Grand Prix comes to an end after this 2022 edition, but the president of the ACM insisted that all these rumors were unfounded and that Monaco remained on the Formula 1 calendar for a few more years.
“I want to allude to what we read in the press where we talk about difficulties after this 2022 edition, that is to say from next year, to continue to organize Grands Prix. It was understood that the prices asked by Liberty were too excessive for Monaco and that the Grand Prix was no longer working.” declared Michel Boeri during the general meeting of the body of commissioners of the Automobile Club of Monaco and quoted by the Gazzette de Monaco.
” It’s wrong. We are still in discussions with them and we will now have to concretize by signing a contract. I can guarantee you that after 2022 the Grand Prix is confirmed to take place. I don’t know if the contract will be for 3 or 5 years, but that’s a detail. »
This season, the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix is scheduled from May 27 to 29 and for the first time will be organized over three days from Friday to Sunday and no longer from Thursday to Sunday with an off day on Friday.
