Now the president of the current league leaders FCZ also joins the discussion. Ancillo Canepa comments on the reform plans in a detailed statement on the club’s website.
The FCZ is against the playoffs
Canepa writes in his statement that he was asked for his opinion from many sides. “I’m also asked by fans from all over Switzerland to campaign against the planned playoff games.”
Canepa also makes it clear: the increase to twelve clubs is absolutely welcome. The FCZ President also finds the introduction of a final and a relegation round after 22 games “so far, so good”.
But he was “decidedly against the introduction of this third playoff phase for various reasons”. Canepa leads eleven points, which from his point of view speak against the planned knockout games at the end of the championship.
«Unfair, unfair, boring»
«Whoever has won the most points over the season should also deservedly become champion. And the second and third should be qualified for the European Cup. To want to determine the champion in a playoff final is simply absurd.”
The President of the FCZ finds the planned playoffs “sportingly unfair and unjust”. In addition, the new mode would have to be “clear, uncomplicated and understandable for everyone”. He compares: “A playoff mode was introduced in women’s football. Conclusion: unfair, boring.”
