European first for port of Antwerp: first temperature monitoring for cargo | Antwerp
AntwerpTogether with goods trading partners, Antwerp has developed a service that can monitor the temperature during.
It is the first time in Europe that a network is used for long-distance communication, it is used for end-to-end LoRaWAN, it is used to monitor cargo temperature. This innovative technology to deliver data from a long distance.
This makes it possible for companies to monitor more goods and at the same time man hours to start. “Getting information from a chosen load takes a lot of time and personnel,” says Don Miller of TrakAssure. “With this, we can provide real-time data technology globally.” Miller expects this service in Antwerp to become a model for “many other ports around the world”.
A team will now proceed to the commercial phase of the project, in which thousands of monitors will be launched on cargo passing through the port over the next 12 months.
The technology can be seen as part of the ‘Internet of Things’ and prevents transport companies from relying on cell towers for communication.
